Learn the fundamentals of cob building at the Sustainable Living Arts School.
Saturday, July 23rd and Sunday, July 24th
10 am to 4 pm
Cob is a mixture of sand, clay and straw that is mixed and formed into earthen walls - an ancient building technique that has stood the test of time, and is gaining a popular resurgence right now.
Join the Good Earth Builders, a Sunshine Coast natural building cooperative, as they continue building a garden bench in the edible landscapes of Robin Wheeler's Sustainable Living Arts School campus.
This workshop is geared towards the beginner 'cobber', and will teach the basics of cob mixing, material selection, building techniques, and will include some decorative work (glass bottles, arches, niches, open window, etc). A great introduction to many of the skills needed in both small scale and large scale cob building, and a good way to 'get your feet wet' in the fun world of natural building!
Class fee: $35 / day. Please bring your own lunch, and come prepared to work with gumboots (if you have them), gloves, sunhat, water bottle, and notebook if you like. To register, contact:

With warm humour and patience, Wheeler introduces the basics of gardening in a manner that is both informative and a pleasure to read.
Worrying about where one is going to get their next meal is never something one wants to have to deal with. "Food Security for the Faint of Heart: Keeping Your Larder Full in Lean Times" is a book about preparation when crisis hits. In this modern world, everyone takes the existence of the supermarket for granted and has enough food for about a week, two at most. Covering the skills one needs to stay fed when disaster hits such as preservation, foraging, rationing, and more, "Food Security for the Faint of Heart" is something to keep at hand in case the worst occurs.
